The Sea Cadets

Unit Chairman

Name: Major Alec Moss

Occupation: Engineer

Sea Cadet Unit: Walton-on-The-Naze
Like many of those involved with the Sea Cadets, Major Alec Moss brings a lifetime of military experience to the Corps. After 25 years in the Royal Mechanical & Electrical Engineers, he was introduced to the Walton-on-the-Naze Unit. Little did he know that a few years later he would become Chairman of the Unit. “My main responsibilities include a lot of fund-raising. Every year we organise a variety of events and activities including an annual Unit dinner and horse-racing evenings. At Christmas we build and decorate a float which we drive around the town. Typically, we raise about £8,000 a year!”

But it’s not just commercial acumen that Major Moss brings to the Unit. A qualified Yachtmaster, his contacts within the local sailing club have also broadened the Unit’s sailing activities. “Sailing is my passion,” he says, “and as well as having a small fleet of dinghies, we also have access to the local yacht club where cadets can get involved with competitive sailing.”
